Getting to Santa Fe
After getting off the plane at the Albuquerque International Sunport, and successfully retrieving your baggage, you may rent a car and make the 60-mile drive to Santa Fe. Alternatively, you may choose to leave the driving to Santa Fe Shuttle or Sandia Shuttle Express, which make numerous daily runs from the Sunport to Santa Fe.
Making the Drive
You may take the quick route to Santa Fe, or the slower, more scenic route. CAUTION: Due to the Santa Fe Fiesta Historical/Hysterical Parade, access to the Hilton parking lot will be barricaded between noon and 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9. Parking in downtown Santa Fe, in the vicinity of the Hilton, will be very difficult to find on that day. Please plan to arrive at the Hilton either before noon or after 4:00 p.m. Although check-in time is not until 4:00 p. m., you may store your baggage at the hotel until then.
To make the quick drive, take Interstate 25 north shortly after leaving the Sunport. Observing the speed limit of 75 miles per hour you will reach Santa Fe in about an hour. Just south of Santa Fe you will be blessed with a view of the city basking in all its splendor in “The Dancing Ground of the Sun.” From Interstate 25 exit onto St. Francis Drive, veering to the left and heading toward the downtown plaza. Turn right onto West Alameda Street, and then left onto Sandoval Street and into the Hilton Santa Fe Historic Plaza Hotel parking lot.
The more scenic drive to Santa Fe via Highway 14, “The Turquoise Trail”, will take about an hour and a half if you make no stops. You may, however, want to pull over to admire a view of the distant mountains or to visit the old mining towns of Madrid and Cerrillos. To get onto Highway 14, take Interstate 25 north from the Sunport, then follow Interstate 40 east to the Highway 14 exit. When you reach Santa Fe, turn right onto Cerrillos Road and drive until it intersects with Galisteo Street. Turn left onto Galisteo Street and make a left turn onto West Alameda Street. Turn right onto Sandoval Street and into the Hilton Santa Fe Historic Plaza Hotel parking lot.
