Be sure not to miss the President’s Banquet, which begins at 5:00 p. m. at the Museum of International Folk Art (www.internationalfolkart.org) on Museum Hill, a beautiful rise in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Range of the Rocky Mountains.   The Museum, which opened to the public in 1953, has gained national and international recognition as home to the world’s largest collection of folk art, comprising more than 135,000 artifacts.  The Girard Wing displays folk art, popular art, toys and textiles from than 100 nations.  The Hispanic Heritage Wing is dedicated to exhibitions of “Family and Faith”, demonstrating the major role those values have played in shaping the culture of northern New Mexico.  The exhibition presents hide paintings, tinwork, furniture, jewelry, straw appliqué, horse gear, weavings, and santos, three-dimensional bultos and painted retablos spanning the four centuries beginning with the Spanish colonial period.  Plans call for parts of this museum to remain open during the President’s Banquet.

Museum Hill is home to three other intriguing museums, as well as the Museum of International Folk Art:  The Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, the Wheelwright Museum of the American Indian and the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art (
www.museumhill.org).

The President’s Banquet promises to be a memorable moment of WSATA 2007.  On this evening, and on many evenings back home, we hope you will ¡Savor Santa Fe!
